Get Berkshire Active Commits to Global Movement for Gender Equity in Sport and Physical Activity

Get Berkshire Active has signed the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration, joining a global network of over 700 organisations dedicated to accelerating gender equity in sport and physical activity.

By joining the global network of signatories, GBA is reinforcing its long standing commitment to addressing the inequalities that prevent many women and girls from being active and ensuring that physical activity opportunities across Berkshire are inclusive, welcoming and accessible.

The signing reflects GBA's belief that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of being physically active, regardless of their gender, background or circumstances.

Across Berkshire, GBA has been working with partners to understand and tackle the barriers faced by women and girls, supporting programmes and campaigns that create positive experiences of movement and physical activity throughout life. This includes:

• Working with local partners to better understand the needs and experiences of women and girls who are least likely to be active.

• Supporting the creation of safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where women and girls feel confident participating.

• Championing approaches that recognise the importance of physical activity for health, wellbeing, confidence and social connection.

• Using insight and evidence to influence local systems, services and environments so that women's voices and experiences shape future opportunities.

• Supporting This Girl Can, helping to challenge perceptions about being active and encouraging women to move in ways that work for them.
